Genre Analysis- The music biz


The music Biz was a mixed documeantary theat contained observation, nattarion, cutaways, conflict, interviews and pictures. It had strong themes the music industry and how to survive and stay on top. It showed how important it is to market a song probably and how to make a song/ artist global.

It had a linear narrative that’s started by introducing meat loaf as an artist and giving us some background information on him. In the middle conflict arises from other artists and if meatloaf will be successful or not, it’s then finished by answering all are questions as he was successful, and the marketing turned out the gain him the number one spot for numerous weeks.

When interviewing meatloaf the camera use an xcu shot of his face, showing his importance of him. Tracking shots of the music store were used as well showing how far he came to get his number one. Also when the director was being shown they used an low angle shot to create immediate power around him. Head and shoulder shot being used in every interview.

Mise en scene again was relevant in every interview as blue screen was used in the background, and sometimes was even animated. His posters, album covers and new paper reports were also in the background on numerous occasions.

Diegetic noises were used and also the artists, they were referring to, music would be in the background. Editing included tracking shots, shot reverse shots, super imposed, quick interviews (montage) and dissolves.

The archive material included clips off Top of the pops, recording studios and also news reports. Graphic were used to reinforce what the narrator was saying and also to inform the viewers the name and relevance of the interviewee.
